The Colonial Society of Massachusetts Announces the
2025 Walter Muir Whitehill Prize in Early American History
This prize of $2500, established in memory of Walter Muir Whitehill, for many years Editor of Publications for the Colonial Society and the moving force behind the organization, will be awarded to an outstanding and previously unpublished scholarly essay on American history before 1825, with preference given to New England subjects.
A committee of eminent historians will review the submissions, and the winning essay will be published in The New England Quarterly.
Submissions of no more than 14k words should be sent by Word attachment to neq@umb.edu no later than January 15, 2026.
